UpadhiSetu

About

A bridge, not a middleman.

UpadhiSetu is a digital employment platform that connects workers and employers. Employers post temporary, daily and skilled work; workers discover jobs nearby, apply easily, and talk to employers directly — in their own language, without an agent standing in between.

01What the name means

Upadhi means work or livelihood. Setu means a bridge. The name describes the whole product: we are the span between two banks, not a party standing on either one. The mark shows two people reaching toward each other across that span.

02The problem we set out to solve

In villages and small towns, finding a day's work still runs on who you happen to know. A mason hears about a job because a cousin mentioned it. A farmer who needs six people for harvest rings around until enough of them say yes. Both sides lose time, and both sides depend on whoever is willing to broker the introduction — often for a cut.

The existing digital options do not fit this work. Job portals are built around résumés, office roles and month-long hiring cycles. Classified apps have no notion of a wage, a date, or how many people are needed. Home-services apps employ their own vetted staff at city prices. None of them describe two days of weeding at ₹500 a day in a specific village.

What makes this different

  • Work is described the way it is actually offered — a wage per day, a date range, a number of people, and what is provided on site.
  • Both roles live in one account. The person hiring today may be looking for work next week.
  • Telugu is not an afterthought. Every label appears in two scripts at once, not behind a language setting.
  • Teams are first-class. One group lead can bring five people to a job that needs five people.

03Who it is for

Two kinds of people use UpadhiSetu, and most users are both at different times.

  • People looking for work — daily-wage labourers, masons, electricians, drivers, farm workers, household helpers, shop and warehouse staff.
  • People with work to give — farmers, homeowners, small builders, shop and business owners, transport operators.

04How it works

Someone with work to give chooses the category and specific service, sets the daily wage, the dates and how many people are needed, and marks what is provided — drinking water, meals, transport, accommodation. The post goes out to workers nearby whose registered skills match the category.

Workers see the post with the wage stated upfront, and apply — alone, or as a team with a group lead. The hirer reviews who applied and hires. Only then are contact details exchanged, and a chat opens inside the app. When the work is finished, each side rates the other, and contact details are withdrawn again.

05What UpadhiSetu is not

This matters more than the feature list, so it is worth stating plainly.

  • Not an employer. We do not hire anyone, set anyone's wages, or supervise any work. The agreement is between the two users.
  • Not a labour contractor or agent. We do not supply labour, take a margin on wages, or represent either side.
  • Not a payment service. Wages are settled directly between the two people. UpadhiSetu does not hold, transfer or guarantee any money.
  • Not a background-check service. We verify that a phone number is real and that the account holder states they are 18 or over. We do not run police verification or skills testing.
Because of this, judgement stays with you. Ratings, verified numbers and an in-app record of the conversation exist to inform that judgement — not to replace it. Agree the wage and the work clearly before starting.

06Safety, and where its limits are

Every account is tied to a phone number confirmed by SMS. A hirer's name and number stay hidden until they accept an application, and are withdrawn once the work is complete. Ratings run in both directions and are visible before either side commits. Date of birth is checked at signup and enforced on our servers, so accounts under 18 cannot be created.

UpadhiSetu will never ask for your OTP, password or bank details — not by chat, not by phone. Anyone who does is not us. Report it on +91 8559889888.

07Languages

The app is available in Telugu, English and Hindi. Choosing a language changes everything — labels, buttons, work types and notifications — and a second script is shown alongside the first, so a household where one person reads English and another reads Telugu can use the same screen.

08How we make money

Today, we do not. Registration is free, posting work is free, and applying for work is free. There is no commission on wages, because wages never pass through us.

If that changes, it will be announced in the app before it takes effect, and this page will be updated. We will not introduce a charge on a worker for the right to apply for work.

09Our mission

To simplify local hiring, improve employment accessibility, and empower communities through technology.

UpadhiSetu is early. It is in active use in and around Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and the work categories reflect what people there actually post. If a kind of work is missing, tell us and we will add it.
